Thankful Thursday.....Happy New Year Everyone..

How to Tell That You have Entered a New Year and be Thankful that this year arrive with a positive Bang!!!!!!

  • You enter your password on the microwave.
  • You haven't played solitaire with a real deck of cards in years.
  • You have a list of 15 phone numbers to reach your family of four.
  • You call your son's beeper to let him know it's time to eat. He 'phones you back from his bedroom, 'What's for dinner?'
  • You chat several times a day with a stranger from Canada, but you haven't spoken with your next door neighbour all last year.
  • Your daughter just bought a CD of all the records your college roommate used to play.
  • You check the ingredients on a can of chicken noodle soup to see if it contains Echinacea.
  • Your grandmother clogs up your e-mail inbox asking you to send her a JPEG file of your newborn so she can create a screen saver.
  • You pull up in your own driveway and use your cell phone to see if anyone is home.
  • Every commercial on television has a website address at the bottom of the screen.
  • You buy a computer and a week later it is out of date and now sells for half the price you paid.
  • The concept of using real money instead of credit or debit to make a purchase is foreign to you.
  • Your reason for not staying in touch with family is that they do not have e-mail addresses.
  • Your idea of being organised is multi-coloured Post-it notes.
  • You hear most of your jokes via e-mail instead of in person.
  • You're reading this.

Christmas Superstitions

People and culture everywhere have quirks and unbelievable beliefs of all occasions. Christmas is never exempt from these. Here are collections of these beliefs form other culture, eras and people.
Christmas Cakes & Pies Superstitions
• Earlier, everybody was supposed to help make the Christmas cake.
• Since the Victorian Times, people stirred the cake mix thrice and make a wish for a gift from Santa.
• People used to put silver charms into the mix too.
• Into the mince pie mix, a sixpence coin for luck; a thimble for prosperity; a ring for marriage and a bachelor's button were also added. The things that one got into their piece predicted the year ahead.
• It was considered unlucky to refuse a mince pudding on Christmas Eve.
• A piece for the pie had to be saved for the following day.

• It was a bad omen to eat mince pies before Christmas Eve and after Twelfth Night.
• One must never cut the Christmas pie as it cuts the luck.
• The dumb cake was made at midnight on Christmas Eve is prepared in complete silence by the bachelors and spinsters. One who made it left their initials on the upper surface of the cake. If the silence remained unbroken, the future partner was believed to come and leave their initials on the cake. If one walked backwards to bed after eating dumb cake, a dream about a future spouse was sure to visit them.

With Love Wednesday

BASICS: DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MAN AND WOMAN
Perhaps you wondered if God was playing a cruel trick by making men and women so different from each other. Perhaps you have entertained the thought that God must have made a mistake. But right now. Now please keep in mind we are generalizing. Not all men and all women fall into these categories, but most do.
MEN
1. Men have one-track minds. They don’t look left or right.
2. They don’t ask directions¨ because they don’t like to admit they’re wrong.
3. Men blurt word s and don’t notice they have already hurt their wives feelings.
4. When men get angry, they’ll yell and scream and that’s it¨ it’s over and done.
5. When men lost their belts, they ask their wives and think they’re the ones who put them away.
6. When men see scattered stuffs, they just step over them until their wives told them to pick them up.
7. While women can use sex to get what they want, men cannot, because sex is what they want.
8. With all said and done, "I still love you (points at Ted) because of what you’re to me."
WOMEN
1. Women are more sensitive and emotional.
2. They are more caring and nurturing.
3. Women are more easily side-tracked.
4. They are more observant of the surroundings.
5. Women try to "fix" people whether or not the person wants to be fixed.
6. Women get angry by either being silent. And they stat mad for days.
7. Trying to make up and to say sorry is just not enough for women.
You have to do like 10 nice things to make up for one bad thing you did.
8. With all said and done, I still love my wife, because she is a God-given gift to me.

Unfortunately, more often than not, the differences between a man and a woman can cause friction. Each is viewing the same situation through their own eyes; eyes that perceive the same thing in different ways. The question of the day is: "How can I learn to work as a HALF of a two-person relationship?"
But God has a plan¨ He designed men and women to be a TEAM. A man plus a woman is like to pieces of a puzzle. Together they make a WHOLE picture. The man can attack a project and not be sidetracked while a woman can clue on details. The man can be strong and tough during hard times and the woman can let him know what is happening on the emotional side. The man can be a rock, the woman can be his pillow.
The Bible also gives us answers on how to relate with our spouses. If we begin applying its counsels, we will be headed in the right direction. Here is the counsel: "Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honor preferring one another." Ephesians 4:32: "And be ye kind one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ¡¯s sake hath forgiven you."
We are members of CFM, Caring for Marriage USA, Philippine base, and me and my husband did a seminar-workshop on the differences of men and women last month at Makati City group of couples, the excerpt are those mentioned above. Thanks for reading, I hope you enjoyed it.

Christmas, Christmas , Christmas

Free Graphics - MySpace/Xanga/Friendster

I will be featuring Christmas meanings, celebrations, quotations, stories, starting today until December 25. This is my first entry.
Part 1

LOLA. A Christmas Legend
She was the grand dame of Christmas. She was the life of family gatherings. She was a local ballerina. Everybody just love grandma: her amazing energy, her joyous and sunny demeanor, her insatiable appetite to experiment new recipes in the kitchen, her friendliness to all people is a trademark known to both young and old. To Lola Del everyone is a friend. I can remember myself perched on her high stool in her kitchen during holiday seasons when we visit our grandparents house. Lola Del as we call her has concocted dozens of recipes in her lifetime. Recipes for birthdays, anniversaries, Christmas recipes, recipes for local visiting dignitaries, recipes for Sunday gatherings, recipes for lunch, breakfast, supper, etc., you name it she has done it. She is always on the lookout for new, exotic, tempting, delicious, varied food, sprinkled with magic in her kitchen.
There were times I would peek in to see what’s the aroma coming from her nook is all about. I have been mesmerized by the arena of rainbow colored ingredients arrange in rows over the counter tops and the delicate smell of something cooking, baking, boiling, broiling almost everyday those vacation times. I grew up identifying the different smell and aroma of different spices, combined with recipes so yummy your saliva trickles slowly every time you entered her kitchen. She collected recipes locally and from outside the country carefully placed in her recipe boxes. She has a fleet of pans and cooking, and baking utensils, I wondered how she can remember how to use each one of them. To me, a fork and spoon is all I need to survive the kitchen.
Lola Del would always have a grand entrance when she finishes off a new recipe she made, ready to be presented on whoever is around on certain days. We would get a big laugh when she starts tapping her heels ready to make the grand entrance. The family would of course gather and clap their hands in appreciation to her new inventions and everyone gets to taste exotic dishes with the accompaniment of ooohhhh and aaaahhhhs from appreciation, delight, or surprise. Tango, cha-cha, boggie, these old time beautiful dances often follows the celebration of a newly discovered dish. I tried following in the dance steps but I never had the gift of executing leaps, bounds and steps. I have to be content sitting at the sidelines and clapping with the rest of the family members enjoying the celebration of cooking successes. What I learned better at those times where the identification of what spices or ingredients were mixed with the new recipes presented. My nose became so attuned with these ingredients I became a connoisseur of smell.
I never dreamt that Lola would someday stopped her grand parades and entrances and eventually let some strangers take over her kitchen. Slowly, it seems that the drum rolls gradually faded. Slowly the aroma coming from the kitchen did not seem to caress my nosestrils anymore. Slowly the excitement from the kitchen has come to a sickening halt. Slowly, my Lola, has inched her way out of her kitchen when we were in our college years.
We visited Lola almost every Sunday in her eldest son’s house for the past three years now, because they said she cannot manage herself anymore. They said, she cannot remember our names anymore, and even she cannot identify our faces and voices anymore. Somehow to me this cannot be happening. She was my grand Lola…..the Lola who would greet me on holidays with her authentic smile and a big twinkle in her eyes telling me and the rest of us children that a surprise is coming.....another uniquely concocted dish specially for us children.
One day, my mom, my brother and me, decided to visit Lola. She was sitting on one of the dining chairs in the kitchen and was staring blankly and was so far away that even I was not able to reach her. My cousins told me she was like that for days now. As if she can hear but refuses to acknowledge us. I tried feeding her with the food we brought but she never move or blink her eyes. We wanted to visit her that day because we want to cheer her up or something. My brother told her, if he could bathe her, well a miracle happened, she nodded and consented to my brothers request. So we prepared her things and my brother started bathing her. Lola by this time was 83 years old already. She was too me, frail, tiny and thin, not the grand Lola my mind kept seeing, but at that moment I refuse to see the reality of her getting old. In my mind she was the Lola, so young, so full of life, so much fun to be with. After she has taken her bath we told her if she wanted to visit her doctor, she nodded her head and we got ready to carry her to the car. My brother carried her and placed her on the front seat. I was still inside my uncles house when suddenly I heard mom cried. I rushed outside and saw my mom crying.
My brother told me to that Lola pass away moments after he seated her in the car. I rushed to her side, and tried every ounce of my strength to shake her and wake her up, but to no avail. We rushed her to the hospital, but the doctor told us she has finally rested. We struggled to accept the reality that someone as grand as Lola has to past away without honor, trophy or what. People we do not know came during the wake and we had about three hundred or more mourners who attended her funeral, each one, saying they tasted one or the other of her exotic cooking. No illness, no pain, no agony, no grand entrance this time, no exotic dishes....only the last simple breath of a great family kitchen chef.
Lola Del died six Christmasses ago, the tradition of sampling, finding, sleuthing for new dishes is still on. The family even did a contest once on who can prepare the most unusual dish by the next coming Christmas, and the one who could bring it would then have the honor to parade in with the drum rolls. I have taken the challenge by heart so far as surfing, researching, collecting dishes from far and wide.
I have been experimenting with a variety of dishes, and still have to find answers to my hypotheses on how she did it all. But In my heart Christmas will never be complete if Lola’s spirit is not celebrated. This Christmas, I have to be that parade winner. I have to learn though how to tap my heels in Lola’s unique fashion. I have to do her brand Marilyn Monroe-cum Lola pose. The staccato of the drum rolls, the deafening rhythmic mesmerizing clap is heard, the last Criminal Tango is turned on and from afar, I smelled the last aroma of that last ingredient I still have to find, this Christmas, LOLA’s legend lives on inside our hearts.
( Lola means grandma in our dialect)

A Most Unusual Christmas Cantata

Last night was a night incomparable to none. We attended an end of the year Christmas Cantata before the school Christmas break that will start December 17. My daughter invited us to their high school Christmas Cantata, "The Birth of Jesus." Well as parents we have to attend, because our daughter will perform with her High School Ensemble, we are on all out support of her music career, she plays the flute by the way. We arrive early so we got the best seats on the Finster Hall. Five minutes before the start of the Cantata the Ensemble began playing beautiful Christmas music. Then the choir came in with all their majesty and started singing two preludes and then a prayer song. After this, the choir sang again and at this point because its a cantata the characters came in one by one miming their parts in duo with the choir singing. In came...King Herod telling the wise men about a royal birth and commanding the search.....in came the shepherds in awe with the angels.....in came...Mary and Joseph carrying baby Jesus...the choir sung, the actors continued playing their roles....Commotion...commotion....our eyes were riveted to the character Mary....we were not aware what the commotion was all about...we were deep into the Cantata now...but again people where straining their necks to the front to the character Mary again. This time I saw it....the baby was live...a real baby, and the baby has started moving uneasily now...and the character Mary was also uneasy...she does not know what to do now..... the audience are already whispering, and even some are already alarm at how actor Mary would pacify the baby....from our row somebody whispered loudly.....Mary needs a Nanny......and we can hear, and everybody heard it.....controlled whimperings from the audience...Oh my.....this was already causing the main characters controlled laughters....Well.....Mary really needs a Nanny...the baby this time really woke up and almost shrieks when she saw an unknown Mary....the grandma ran to the front to take away baby (Jesus)the baby has to be brought back to the real mom....wheeew...what a night of songs....music....and drama in real life. We knew later that night that the characters forgot to bring a doll to represent Jesus....and this mom was so kind enough to hand her baby to the actors while the baby was asleep.Well what a conclusion for the night.....it was to me a most unusual Christmas Cantata....everybody did not expect a live performance by a baby...a real baby.

TT: Thanks a lot

This is another day to thank the Lord for Part 2:

An annoying friend who eventually realize we are not enjoying what she is doing to us, haaayyyy, she got our messages, it was a journey to learn.
For an accepting professor, she understood that when we are beyond forty, we are already beginning to experience the point of no return...or is this an excuse?
For a simple gift, a loaf of bread given by the Dean of a department....some more of it madam! salud....
For a husband who is always in hot pursuit.........."operation studying"...ehhehehe, he is nose-bleeding now from memorizing his anatomy lesson.
Gift of education, we are on study leave...this is the reason of the husbands bleeding disorder mentioned above.
Developmental Alzheimer, I can't seem to recall what my professors lectured....oh, my! extra blessings from above are needed, but i enjoyed class discussions more, what with arguments flying to and fro..exciting...some more of that classmates.
For a very good dinner at a Chinese restaurant last night: Broccoli with fish fillet serve to perfection, fried pasta in mushroom, bamboo shoots and fungus sauce, yummy, yummy tummy....down everything with a sweet blend of mango puree. Can we have take two tomorrow night, I kind of give up home-cooking if this is the case.
My kids, they keep me smiling, frowning, jumping, shouting, laughing, tickling, hugging, etc, etc. though my heart is heavy at times. By the way do you know the meaning of the word etc? it means....end of thinking capacity...got it? etc. C u next TT time.

TCP: Moulin Rouge

The year is 1899, and Christian, a young English writer, has come to Paris to follow the Bohemian revolution taking hold of the city's drug and prostitute infested underworld. And nowhere is the thrill of the underworld more alive than at the Moulin Rouge, a night club where the rich and poor men alike come to be entertained by the dancers, but things take a wicked turn for Christian as he starts a deadly love affair with the star courtesan of the club, Satine. But her affections are also coveted by the club's patron: the Duke. A dangerous love triangle ensues as Satine and Christian attempt to fight all odds to stay together but a force that not even love can conquer is taking its toll on Satine.Even in ages past, loves motto is still the same,"Bahalag saging, basta labing"...that's our motto too for Couch Potatoes, romantic musical... in English...it means..."For better or for worse, for banana or for apple, we are inseparable, 'til death do us part."

MYM: Yello Phy

Me and my Yellow Python, her name is Yellow Phy.... yikes.....am just soooo afraid it would wake up. She's a she, so might be careful we don't know what's in her mind. She's somewhere in her late forties, got to be really careful, be on your tiptoes...she's menopausal...you know, the hot flashes and cold flashes might trigger an onslaught of the mighty temper tantrum or what, kind of like me sometimes...hehehehe.
A short lesson about Yello Phy:

She lay eggs, unlike the boas who give live birth.

They differ in a lot of other ways as well, including size (pythons are generally bigger), scale pattern and facial features. Pythons sense heat through "pits" along the side of their nose, while boas have heat sensory scales. To name a few. They are
nonvenomous snakes of the family Pythonidae, found chiefly in Asia, Africa, and Australia, that coil around and suffocate their prey. Pythons often attain lengths of 6 meters (20 feet) or more.

I can't believe it happened !!!!

Am still totally fazed and angry with what happened to that part in Mindanao where I was born and raised. I love the place for its simple grandeur, its towering mountain peaks, grand canyons, lush greenery. I cannot ask for more, for I have enjoyed its bounty from its fresh fruits and vegetables, to its friendly smiling people, my People. I have never been prouder to say to people i met that i am a Mindanaon.I still am at a lost for words to what happened to our Muslim brothers who got greedy and led out in the taking of precious lives. I was not able to read the newspaper when all of these happened, then a friend asked me about it. I have to run and find a newspaper to reconcile my shock and find the truth. I then called my husband and he also cannot believe what he heard about it. One by one he called friends who knew the brutish news. We, both were silence with what we heard on radio and witness on TV. I literally sob inside and prayed silently this was not happening. But to deny what happened was to deny justice. I join millions of people praying for justice to be delivered fast to this gruesome acts of evilness. I denounced any form of demonic activities such as this one. Let's pray for the bereaved families and in times like this we need God in our lives, He is the only Anchor we can hold on to.

TCP: My Incredible Hulk

A fugitive scientist has the curse of becoming a powerful green monster under extreme emotional stress.
Don't make me angry. You wouldn't like me when I'm angry...I memorized this lines and it became my favorite...I grew up with the "Incredible Hulk." Just my kind of hero.

MYM: What Matters Most

Health Notes

I studied the function of our nervous system this week and I was fascinated how God made us all beautiful. An example of this is how he placed endorphins in our system that act as natural protection from pain. Endorphins are endogenous opioid polypeptide compounds. They are produced by the pituitary gland and the hypothalamus in vertebrates, these give us natural highs and potent natural pain killers. Here are some good ways to increase Endorphins in our body.

You can laugh a lot
You can eat spicy food
You can engage in deep breathing, or meditate
You can have a chiropractic adjustment or acupuncture treatment
You can listen to the music you most enjoy
You can eat chocolate
You can have sex
You can exercise

Any of these activities can increase the levels of endorphins and enkephalins in the body, giving us a general feeling of happiness. This can be true for back pain or pain in the neck or other extremities, arthritis pain, fibromyalgia pain, or neuropathic pain (nerve pain). Let's have a healthy, hearty laugh today.

Scenic Sunday

My husband took these beautiful flowers scene when he visited Seattle. Acres and acres of it, though I don't know the name of these flowers, it's just so breathtaking. Wish to visit this place one day.

Mommy moments

There are times that as a mom, I experience denials that my kids are growing faster than I can imagine. In my brain's eyes they are still tiny tots, but, they remind me that moms kids are already grown up. My son is taller than me, he's catching dad in a most amazing way, he plays the trumpet well now. My daughter is my look-alike in so many ways, she is talented, beautiful, plays the piano and the flute, sings very well and recently did a recording with some school artists, and she is a very good baker. Both are members of the schools instrumental ensemble. As a mom, I make sure they stay with me as long as I can make, times like these are precious.
